Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, and salt until evenly coated. Spread the apples in an even layer across the bottom of your prepared baking dish.
- In another bowl, combine the flour, oats, and brown sugar. Add the cold butter cubes and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the apples, covering them completely.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and bubbling around the edges, and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
- Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for extra indulgence.
Notes
For an extra burst of flavor, sprinkle a little nutmeg or ginger into the apple mixture. You can also add chopped nuts to the crumble topping for extra crunch.
