Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 cups water or milk for cooking oats
  • 2 ripe bananas sliced
  • 1/2 cup walnuts roughly chopped for toasting
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch salt

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Toasting pan or skillet
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Knife
  • Cutting board

Method

  1. Add the rolled oats, water or milk, a pinch of salt, and cinnamon to a medium saucepan. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce the heat to low and simmer, uncovered, until oats are tender and mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
1 cup rolled oats, 2 cups water or milk, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, Pinch salt
  2. While the oats cook, spread the walnuts in a dry skillet or toast pan over medium heat. Toast, shaking the pan frequently, until the walnuts are golden brown and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
    1/2 cup walnuts
  3. Once the oats have cooked, stir in the honey until evenly incorporated. Add the sliced bananas to the pot and gently fold them into the mixture. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, until bananas are slightly softened but still hold their shape.
2 ripe bananas, 1 tablespoon honey
  4. Transfer the cooked oatmeal into bowls. Top each bowl with the toasted walnuts, ensuring they are evenly distributed for crunch and aroma.
    1/2 cup walnuts
  5. Optionally, drizzle with extra honey or sprinkle additional cinnamon for added flavor. Serve warm, enjoying the contrast of creamy oats, soft bananas, and crunchy walnuts.

Notes

For extra richness, stir in a splash of cream or milk before serving. Adjust sweetness with more honey as desired.
