Ingredients
  

  • 1 loaf French or Ciabatta bread Slice into individual sandwich portions
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella cheese sliced
  • 2 large ripe tomatoes sliced
  • a handful fresh basil leaves whole leaves
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic glaze for drizzling
  • to taste salt and freshly ground black pepper for seasoning

Method
 

  1. Slice the bread into sturdy sandwich-sized pieces and lay them open-faced on a clean cutting board.
  2. Arrange overlapping slices of fresh mozzarella on the bottom slice of bread, covering the surface evenly.
  3. Place ripe tomato slices over the mozzarella, layering them so they slightly overlap and cover the cheese completely.
  4. Tuck fresh basil leaves in between the tomato slices, allowing their fragrant aroma to infuse the sandwich.
  5. Drizzle the balsamic glaze generously over the assembled ingredients, watching it bead and shimmer as it enhances their appearance.
  6. Close the sandwich with the top bread slice, then press gently to help the flavors meld and ingredients settle.
  7. Slice the sandwich in half diagonally to create two servings, revealing the colorful layers inside.
  8. Arrange the sandwich halves on plates, sprinkle with a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste, and serve immediately.

Notes

Feel free to add a drizzle of olive oil or a few more basil leaves for extra flavor. Use crusty bread that holds up well to the juicy tomatoes and soft cheese for best results.
