Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise for the special sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup for the sauce
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard adds tang to the sauce
  • 1/4 cup sweet pickle relish for the sauce
  • 1 clove garlic minced, for sauce and seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder flavor enhancer
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika adds color and depth
  • 1 pound ground beef for the patties
  • 4 small burger buns toasted
  • 4 slices American cheese melts over the patties
  • 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce for crunch
  • 8 pickles sliced dill pickles layered on the patties

Equipment

  • Skillet or frying pan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Toaster or oven for buns
  • Spatula
  • Chef's knife
  • Cutting board

Method

  1. Start by mixing mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, relish, minced garlic, onion powder, and paprika in a bowl to create the special sauce. Stir until smooth and set aside.
  2. Divide the ground beef into four equal portions and gently shape each into a thin patty, being careful not to overwork the meat.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the beef patties for about 3-4 minutes per side, until nicely browned and cooked through. During the last minute, place a slice of cheese on each patty to melt.
  4. While the patties cook, toast the burger buns cut-side down in a toaster or under the broiler until lightly golden and crisp.
  5. Spread a generous layer of the special sauce on the bottom bun, then top with shredded lettuce and a few pickle slices.
  6. Place a beef patty with melted cheese on top of the layered bottom bun.
  7. Add another layer of sauce over the beef patty, then top with additional pickle slices and shredded lettuce for extra crunch.
  8. Finally, place the top bun on and press gently to secure the layers together.
  9. Repeat the process for the remaining burgers. Serve immediately with fries or your favorite sides for the full experience.

Notes

For best results, prepare the sauce a few hours in advance to let the flavors meld. Adjust the amount of pickles and lettuce to your taste preference. Ensure the beef patties are cooked through but still juicy for optimal texture.
