Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh strawberries hulled and sliced
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar divided, for strawberries and topping
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice to enhance flavor
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats adds crunch
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour for the crumble topping
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter cold and cut into small pieces
  • 0.5 tsp salt enhances flavor in topping

Equipment

  • Baking dish
  • Mixing bowls
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Pastry cutter or fingers
  • Oven

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Toss the sliced strawberries with half of the sugar and lemon juice, then spread them evenly in a baking dish.
  2. Combine the oats, flour, remaining sugar, and salt in a mixing bowl. Mix until well blended.
  3. Add the cold butter pieces to the dry mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Evenly sprinkle the crumble mixture over the strawberries, covering them completely.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for about 35-40 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and bubbling around the edges.
  6. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. The crumble will be warm, with a crispy topping and tender, juicy strawberries underneath.

Notes

Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for extra indulgence.
