Watermelon Basil Smoothie

This watermelon basil smoothie is a chilled beverage blending ripe watermelon, honeydew, fresh basil, lime juice, and ginger. It is made by combining the ingredients in a blender with crushed ice until smooth, resulting in a vibrant pink, slightly textured drink with aromatic herbal notes. The final consistency is refreshingly cold, with a bright, crisp flavor profile and a slightly slushy appearance.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups ripe watermelon chunks seedless if possible
  • 1 cup honeydew melon chunks
  • 10 leaves fresh basil roughly chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice fresh squeezed
  • 1 inch fresh ginger peeled and grated
  • 1.5 cups crushed ice

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Add the watermelon chunks, honeydew, basil, lime juice, and grated ginger to your blender jar.
  2. Pour in the crushed ice on top of the fruit mixture.
  3. Secure the lid and blend on high speed until the mixture is smooth and slightly frothy, about 30-40 seconds. You should see a vibrant pink color and a thick texture.
  4. Pause to check the consistency; if it's too thick, add a splash of water or more lime juice and blend briefly again.
  5. Pour the smoothie into glasses, allowing the icy texture to settle slightly on top.
  6. Garnish with a small basil leaf or a thin slice of lime for a fresh finishing touch.

Notes

Can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 1 hour for extra chill. Stir before serving if icy layers separate.
