Ingredients

  • 4 cups cubed fresh watermelon seedless or de-seeded
  • 0.5 cups fresh lemon juice about 2-3 lemons
  • 1 bunch fresh basil leaves roughly 8-10 leaves
  • 2 tablespoons honey or simple syrup optional, for added sweetness
  • to taste ice cubes optional, for serving

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Fine-mesh strainer

Method

  1. Add the cubed watermelon to the blender and pulse until smooth and frothy, about 30 seconds, creating a vibrant pink juice.
  2. Pour the watermelon puree through a fine-mesh strainer into a large pitcher to remove any solids and achieve a silky texture. Use the back of a spoon to gently press and extract as much juice as possible.
  3. Add fresh lemon juice to the strained watermelon juice, stirring gently to combine the bright citrus tang with the sweet fruit base.
  4. Roughly tear the basil leaves and add them to the mixture, then stir to infuse the herbal aroma into the juice. Let sit for 5 minutes if you prefer a more pronounced basil flavor.
  5. Taste the lemonade and, if desired, stir in honey or simple syrup for extra sweetness. Mix until fully incorporated.
  6. Remove the basil leaves and discard or set aside for garnish if desired. Pour the lemonade into glasses filled with ice cubes for a chilled finish.
  7. Garnish each glass with a fresh basil leaf or a small watermelon wedge for visual pop. Serve immediately for the best flavor and aroma.

Notes

For a more concentrated basil flavor, steep the basil in the lemonade for longer. Adjust sweetness to taste depending on the sweetness of your watermelon and lemon juices.
