Ingredients

  • 4 cups ripe watermelon, cubed seeded or de-seeded
  • 1/4 cup lime juice freshly squeezed
  • 1/2 cup tequila silver or blanco preferred
  • 2 cups ice cubes
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika or chili powder for salted rim
  • 1/4 cup sea salt for salted rim

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Shallow dish for salt rim
  • Cocktail glasses
  • Juicer or lime squeezer

Method

  1. Prepare the chili salt rim by mixing sea salt with smoked paprika or chili powder in a shallow dish. Set aside.
  2. Cut a lime wedge and rub it around the rim of each cocktail glass to moisten the edge.
  3. Dip the rim of each glass into the chili salt mixture, pressing gently to coat evenly and creating a smoky, salty border.
  4. Place the watermelon cubes in a blender and blend until completely smooth, about 30 seconds—watch for a vibrant pink, silky mixture.
  5. Add freshly squeezed lime juice, tequila, and ice cubes to the blender with the watermelon puree.
  6. Blend everything again until well combined and chilled, about 20 seconds, until the mixture is frothy and smooth.
  7. Fill a cocktail glass with the watermelon margarita mixture, pouring carefully over the salted, smoky rim.
  8. Garnish with a small wedge of lime or a thin slice of watermelon if desired, and serve immediately with a straw or sip by sip.

Notes

For a spicier kick, sprinkle extra chili powder on the salt rim. Use fresh watermelon for the best flavor and color.
